How to switch banks without the stress
Open first, move everything, then close.
Switching banks can save money every month. The trick is to do it in order, so nothing bounces along the way.
Step by step
- Open the new account and order a debit card
- Move your direct deposit (ask HR or use your payroll portal)
- List every automatic payment from the last two or three months of statements
- Move each one to the new account
- Leave a small balance in the old account for a month to catch anything you missed
- Download old statements, then close the old account in writing and get confirmation
